Yesterday was a tough day, no doubt about it (BEGINNING THE BLOG). I closed that post with the following words from the devotion in “Jesus Calling”
“Because I am your constant Companion, there should be a lightness to your step that is observable to others. Do not be weighed down with problems and unresolved issues, for I am your burden-bearer. In the world you have trials and distress, but don’t let them get you down. I have conquered the world and deprived it of power to harm you. In Me you may have confident Peace.” (See John 16: 33)
Today I emphasized a different sentence. After I finished a few chores at the house yesterday I went to the gym still feeling kind of down and “heavy” (spiritually and physically). As I walked to the desk the lady scanning my membership card said, “How are you? You look like you’ve got a little pep in your step.” At that time it felt like an oasis in the desert; even though I didn’t feel it, someone else saw something in my twenty foot walk from the door to the desk. A few simple words profoundly shaped the rest of my day. I did thank her as I left the building later; I told her it had been a rough morning and her words were very comforting. Coincidence? Not in my vocabulary.
For me, this was just another example that even when we don’t feel it, even when we don’t realize it, even when we don’t think about it God is still working within us and orchestrating events to show Himself in the simplest and most profound ways. I certainly didn’t feel “a lightness to my step” but someone else observed it and it changed my day.
